Elexalde school will continue collaborating with Katerini school
After almost three year the students of Elexalde school will close their project » Discover and Share Your Identity Mark» after an unforgetful expeience
The Elexalde high school will conclude in May the European project ‘Discover and share your identity mark’, launched in 2018 in collaboration with Katerini school in Greece and which will be closed three years later: «After almost three years, the students of Elexalde will close a unique and unforgettable experience».
Throughout the project we have been able to deepen our roots, share everything we created with our Greek partners and enjoy the Greek culture «, explains Gemma Gutiérrez, English teacher at the Elexalde high school.
Specifically, the project was developed in English by ESO students: «The project started with 3rd ESO students and continued with 4th ESO students. As a result of the pandemic, we extended the project for nine months, so new students from DBH-2 and DBH-4 were added «, explains Gutiérrez.
Teachers of other subjects participated in the project and the content of the project was related to the cultural, natural, maritime and historical-architectural heritage.
«We carried out several activities, as well as a book of recipes of typical Greek and Basque foods that we invite you to taste. They had the opportunity to practice rural sports in the Basque Country and they taught them to Greek students and put them into practice in the virtual mobility. In addition, they created stories from Basque mythology and heard stories of Greek gods, «says Gutiérrez.
Internationalization has been one of the axes of the strategic plan of this project, which we consider important in the society in which we live. It is important that our high schools at present are opened to other realities based on our reality, and that is why we decided to complete this challenge «, explains Gutiérrez
The main objective of the project was to
make our students aware of their cultural heritage, know the Greek heritage, reflect on both , share and learn from both of them with a mindset full of tolerance, respect and inequality».
PRE-PANDEMIC EXCHANGE
In total, three face-to-face meetings and a virtual meeting were held: «In the first year, teachers from the Elexalde Institute travelled to Katerini in Greece to carry out good practices between the two schools. And then, the teachers of the Katerini school made a visit to the Basque Country to get to know our school and have a first contact with our culture, «explains Gutiérrez.
Also, before the pandemic, students from Galdakao travelled to Greece: «Our students will not forget the exchange with Greece before the pandemic last year. Besides they got in contact with the Greek culture, they
made very good friends and it was a valuable personal experience «.
Due to the Coronavirus, Greek students were not able to come to Galdakao: «It was a pity that, because of COVID, Greek students were not able to visit the Basque Country. We made a virtual mobility and they learned to prepare gildas and through the VR glasses they virtually toured our school and Bilbao, «says Gutiérrez.
Last April the students from Galdakao met the mayor, Iñigo Hernando, who transmitted a message to the Greek students: «Galdakao will wait for you with open arms when you can come».
THE SUITCASES ARE FULL.
This interesting project began three years ago, when the Elexalde high school was elected coordinator of an Erasmus+ K229 project, and at the same time the Katerini secondary school in Greece was also chosen.
It was then that this long journey began, with empty suitcases full of illusion, suitcases that have gradually been filled with experiences and knowledge of our culture and the Greek culture «, says Gutiérrez,
, that in May we will close the project ‘Discover and Share your Identity Mark’, although from the Elexalde high school in Galdakao they assure that they will continue collaborating with Katerini school in Greece.
El Instituto Elexalde cerrará en Mayo el proyecto europeo ‘Discover and share your identity mark’, iniciado en 2018 en colaboración con el colegio Katerini de Grecia y que será dado por finalizado tres años después: «Después de casi tres años, los alumnos de Elexalde cerrarán una experiencia única e inolvidable.
A lo largo del proyecto hemos podido profundizar en nuestras raíces, compartir todo lo trabajado con nuestros socios griegos y disfrutar de la cultura griega «, explica Gemma Gutiérrez, profesora de Inglés en el Instituto Elexalde.
En concreto, el proyecto ha sido desarrollado en inglés por alumnos de ESO: «El proyecto comenzó con alumnos de 3º de ESO y continuó con alumnos de 4º de ESO. Como consecuencia de la pandemia, prorrogamos el proyecto durante nueve meses, por lo que se han ido incorporando nuevos alumnos de DBH-2 y DBH-4 «, explica Gutiérrez.
En el proyecto han participado profesores de otras asignaturas y el contenido del proyecto ha estado relacionado con el patrimonio cultural, natural, marítimo e histórico-arquitectónico.
«Hemos realizado varias actividades, así como un libro de recetas de comidas típicas griegas y vascas que os invitamos a degustar. Han tenido la oportunidad de practicar deporte rural en Euskal Herria y se lo han enseñado a los estudiantes griegos y los han puesto en práctica en la movilidad virtual. Además, han creado historias de la mitología vasca y han escuchado historias de dioses griegos «, afirma Gutiérrez.
La internacionalización ha sido uno de los ejes del plan estratégico de este proyecto, que consideramos importante en la sociedad en la que vivimos. Es importante que el centro en la actualidad que se abra a otras realidades a partir de nuestra realidad, y por
eso decidimos culminar este reto «, explica Gutiérrez:
El objetivo principal del proyecto ha sido que nuestros alumnos tomen conciencia de su patrimonio cultural, conozcan el patrimonio griego, reflexionen sobre ambos y puedan compartir y aprender con convivencias llenas de tolerancia, respeto y desigualdad «.
INTERCAMBIO PREVIO A LA PANDEMIA
En total se han celebrado tres encuentros presenciales y un encuentro virtual: «En el primer año, los profesores del Instituto Elexalde viajaron a Katerini a Grecia para realizar buenas prácticas entre los dos centros. Y después, los profesores del centro Katerini realizaron una visita al País Vasco para conocer nuestro centro y tener un primer contacto con nuestra cultura «, explica Gutiérrez.
Asimismo, antes de la pandemia, los
estudiantes de Galdakao viajaron a Grecia: «Nuestros alumnos no olvidarán el intercambio con Grecia antes de la pandemia el año pasado. Además de conocer la cultura griega, hicieron muy buenos amigos y fue una valiosa experiencia personal «.
Con motivo del Coronavirus, los estudiantes griegos no han podido acudir a Galdakao: «Ha sido una pena que, por el Coronavirus, los estudiantes griegos no hayan podido visitar Euskal Herria. Hicimos una movilidad virtual y aprendieron a preparar gildas y a través de las gafas VR recorrieron virtualmente nuestro colegio y Bilbao», dice Gutiérrez.
El pasado mes de abril los estudiantes galdakakoztarras se reunieron con el alcalde, Iñigo Hernando, y transmitió un mensaje a los estudiantes griegos: «Galdakao os esperará con los brazos abiertos cuando podais venir».
LAS MALETAS LLENAS.
Este interesante proyecto comenzó hace tres años, cuando el instituto Elexalde fue elegido coordinador de un proyecto Erasmus+ K229, y a la vez también fue elegido el centro de secundaria Katerini de Grecia. Fue entonces cuando comenzó este largo viaje, con las maletas vacías y llenas de ilusion, maletas que poco a poco se han ido llenando de vivencias y de conocimiento de nuestra cultura y de la cultura griega «, cuenta Gutiérrez, que en mayo dará por finalizado el proyecto ‘Discover and Share your Identity Mark’, aunque desde el Instituto Elexalde de Galdakao aseguran que seguirán trabajando «proyectos puntuales» con el instituto Katerini de Grecia.
